MALIBU LODGE, LOS ROQUES, VENEZUELA
Los Roques National Park located 80 miles off the mainland of Venezuela, is the only coral reef atoll on the North American continent. Encompassing an area of approximately 200 square miles, there are hundreds of flats, cays and small islands. Due to the sheer number and variety of flats that the area has to offer, this is one of the premier bonefishing destinations on the planet
Los Roques is renowned for it's crystal clear water and hard bottom flats. Ideal for wading, these flats vary from huge white sand bottom flats to small pancake style turtle grass flats. Rivaled only by Christmas Island and the Republic of Seychelles, both located on the other side of the world, the flats of Los Roques are perfect for those who prefer to pursue their bonefish by stalking them on foot. The flats of Los Roques are some of the most productive flats in the world for finding tailing bonefish. Regardless of the time of day, you can typically find a flat with tailing fish. Often found in large schools, the bonefish of Los Roques range in size from 2 to 5 pounds. If you want to find larger fish, certain flats tend to be visited by pairs or single bonefish that are commonly in the 5 to 8 pound range. Bonefish over 8 pounds are not landed very day, however these fish are in residence and opportunities to cast to these fish are not rare
